Chapter Six

Marco and Silvi made it back downstairs to the main floor of Calvano Security a little past nine. Silvi complained that she never got to work that late, when the elevator door opened and there stood Jason.

"Good, you're here. We have a plan and need to move out."

"Wait what?" Her panicked voice as Jason stepped in and pressed the button for the lower-level garage wasn't lost on Marco. He settled a hand on her back and leaned closer to give her a gentle kiss behind Jason's back. It wasn't as if he was ashamed of what had transpired between the two of them last night. He just didn't think Silvi wanted to have that conversation with her boss right now.

"You found him?" Marco asked.

"He found you. Shortly after the two of you left the hotel, three of his guys showed up, asking for you. They called security because they kept insisting they were friends of yours and needed your room number. I had a guy sitting on the hotel who witnessed the whole thing. Amateur move if you ask me. "

"That doesn't make sense. Why move on me now?"

"He must have known the two of you were together. Mike’s following a lead and we’ll see where it takes him. We may know soon how he's been tracking the two of you. At least since you've been back in New York."

The doors opened, and Marco had to nudge Silvi forward. She seemed in a daze, and he worried about her. She wasn't the same person she was when they were deployed. Moving quickly on a target made sense in his mind, but it may not be the same way for her anymore. They followed Jason to a blacked-out SUV, and he helped Silvi into the back seat then joined Jason in the front.

"Where are we headed?"

"The warehouse you identified was a good lead. I had our team run through all your intel and they reviewed each viable location. You did good, Marco," Jason said, turning to him quickly before starting the ignition, "We have a team set up and could have moved without you, but I had a feeling you wanted to be there."

"And where does Silvi come into play?"

Jason looked into the rearview mirror with a concerned look. "Little Bit, if I told you to stay at the office, would you have agreed?"

"No. Fuck, no."

Jason shrugged, as if that was enough of an answer.

"I don't want her in the line of danger here. I appreciate what you are doing for me... for us, but if anything happens to her, I'll fucking kill you."

"I don't doubt that. She'll be with Athena. You haven't met her yet, but she's more frightening than half my men. She’ll keep her safe. Nothing will happen to her, Marco. You have my word."

He turned to look out the window. The adrenaline was rushing through his veins and he felt like he needed to scream. When he woke up with Silvi in his arms, a bloody end to a nearly three-year vendetta was the last thing on his mind.
